Featured Teacher – Miss Lindsey

Each month, we recognize and highlight one of our many incredible teachers. This month, we’ll meet Miss Lindsey who teaches at Tippi Toes® Sioux Falls

Tell us a little about your dance history. Did you dance before? Did you teach before?

I’ve danced since I was 3. My parents put me in Ballet hoping it would bring me out of my shell. I fell in love with it and continued with Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Pointe at my studio until I graduated from high school. I studied a variety of dance styles as part of my undergraduate degree in Musical Theatre, as well as dancing in theatre and musical productions. One of my favorites was the tap dancing library scene as Marian in Music Man.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at Tippi Toes®?

It is tough to narrow it down to one thing, but I absolutely love being a part of these kiddos’ lives as they are working to figure out who they are, and how music and dance play a part in that. I may only see them an hour or less a week, but I have been able to watch them use Tippi Toes classes to begin to develop self-confidence. I also love that my work brings me joy, and that impacts my family.

Tell us about a favorite Tippi Toes® moment from class.

One of my favorite memories was the second week a younger sibling of another dancer joined our tiny toes class. I remembered her at our December recital, wanting so badly to dance on stage with her brother! Her first week, she did a lot of observing, and the second week she was an absolute rock star! She danced the entire class, with especially lovely bouree turns! Her brother was so proud to hear that about his sister, and said, my dad has the songs on his phone, so we practiced! I love that they have enough fun in class to go home and dance more, and even better that it gives them something to do together!

What do you like to do for fun when not dancing with the sweet kiddos?

My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family. Tippi Toes allows me to be a part-time stay at home mom, which I love. My three year old and I enjoy visiting the Butterfly House and the zoo, or just running around outside with our dog, Chandler. We have a lot of singing and dancing parties in our kitchen on my days off too!
