Featured Franchise Owner – Miss Tracy

franchise_tracyEvery month we like to highlight one of our terrific franchise owners to hear their story and how they got started. This month, we’re speaking to Tracy Genheimer, who owns her franchises in Oklahoma City & Edmond, Oklahoma.

Hi Miss Tracy!

Thank you for taking time to talk to us about your journey.  We can all learn from each other through sharing our journeys. Please tell us a little about yourself.

Where did you grow up and how did you come to be in Oklahoma?

I was born in California but my family moved out to Texas for my dad’s job towards the end of elementary school. I chose to go to college in Oklahoma and ended up staying!

How long have you had your Tippi Toes® franchise?

I own two franchises – Oklahoma City and North Dallas. My husband and I started the Oklahoma City franchise about 6.5 years ago and we bought the North Dallas Franchise almost 2.5 years ago.

Did you ever think you’d be a business owner?

I never thought I’d be a business owner! I grew up dancing and went to college for dance where I planned to perform and teach. I took a job my senior year of college teaching for Tippi Toes® and totally fell in love with the company! Two years later I owned the OKC franchise!

What made you decide to choose this business?

Tippi Toes is incredible! As a teacher, I fell in love with the mission of Tippi Toes – to bring fun, kid-friendly dance classes to areas all over the city. The music and lessons we use in class are so unique and entertaining and at our core, we want to make kids feel special and loved. As an owner, I am in awe of the community of support and love that Sarah and Megan have created. It is absolutely the best company to be a part of!

What advice do you have for other people starting out on this road?

My advice for people starting their own Tippi Toes® franchise is to reach out to all the other owners when you need help or have questions! Sarah and Megan have built a company full of smart, thoughtful, and creative women who are ready to help and cheer each other on!

What’s the best thing about being a business owner?

There are so many “best things” about being a business owner – it is hard to choose just one! I have two that stick out the most. 1. Making my own schedule and having the flexibility to choose the hours that I work. 2. Meeting so many awesome people – from other owners, to the teachers I hire and of course the countless sweet dancers and families that take our classes!

What’s the most challenging thing about being a business owner?

The most challenging thing for me about being a business owner is to not be so hard on myself. When you are a business owner, the sky is the limit for your business’ success but as a perfectionist, I sometimes don’t give myself enough credit for how far my business has come!

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself?

The advice I would give myself is to enjoy the process of growing your business and be patient. It won’t explode overnight but if you continually plant the seeds, your business will grow and it is so fun to watch!
