Featured Franchise Owner – Miss Miranda

Every month we like to highlight one of our terrific franchise owners to hear their story and how they got started. This month, we’re speaking to Miss Miranda, who owns her in franchise Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Hi Miss Miranda!

Thank you for taking the time to talk to us about your journey.  We can all learn from each other through sharing our journeys. Please tell us a little about yourself.

Where did you grow up and how did you come to be in Sioux Falls?

I was born in Aberdeen, SD but lived in Sioux Falls, SD almost my entire life.

How long have you had your TippiToes?

Tippi Toes Sioux Falls has been offering classes for about 9 months now!

Did you ever think you’d be a business owner?

I always dreamed of owning my own business and doing something I loved, just never knew how it could be possible or what I’d end up doing. But that “itch” has always been there!

What made you decide to choose this business?

I danced for 16 years when I was growing up. I got my Elementary Education degree, taught for a couple of years, and then furthered my education by getting my Masters in Education. I also coached a high school dance team for a few years. So I’ve worked with kids and been involved in dance for a long time! Tippi Toes came into my life at the most perfect time! I had just had my first child and was returning to work from maternity leave. I felt like I wasn’t living life to my fullest and happiest, and wanted to help my growing family by providing for them while also doing something I LOVED! And that’s what I’m doing!

What advice do you have for other people starting out on this road?

Believe in yourself, and know that there will be bumps in the road and lots of doubt, but you need to take a leap of faith in yourself and trust that it will work out. This Tippi Toes family is SO supportive that you’ll always have a friend to help when you need it!

What is the best thing about being a business owner?

It can be very stressful to know that my success/struggles fall on me, but it’s also very motivating and encouraging to know I can be as successful as I want to be as long as I stay motivated and driven to meet my goals. I love that I can provide for my family while setting my own hours to spend more time with them. While also doing something I LOVE! It’s not a job. It’s a career that I LOVE and look forward to every day! I don’t dread Mondays anymore! 😉

What is the most challenging thing about being a business owner?

I would probably say it’s really hard to “turn the work brain” off. I’m constantly thinking about ways to improve my business, who I need to email/call, what are my next steps, how to help my staff and improve our classes, etc. Just running errands around town turns my work brain into thinking “Is that a new daycare? I bet they’d love our classes!” Ha! Ha! It’s a good “problem” to have!

If you could go back in time what advice would you give yourself?

As cheesy as it may sound, you need to believe in yourself and take the first step! My business would not be where it is if I hadn’t taken the leap out of my old job into my new job after all the love, support, and encouragement of my family and friends. Every day is one step at a time to building your business and making your dreams come true!!
